Celebrating the Textile Heritage of Kirkham & Wesham

Saturday 18th October, 2.30 – 5.00pm at Kirkham Community Centre

Long before the Industrial Revolution, Kirkham was already a centre of textile production. Flax was grown, spun, and woven in local homes, and later our mills became famous for producing sailcloth used on English ships across the world.

Join us for an afternoon of hands-on history as we bring Kirkham’s textile story to life:

  • 📸 Displays of old photographs, artefacts, and a timeline of the mills
  • 👞 Historic clogs and other items linked to the local textile trade
  • 🧵 Hands-on spinning and weaving activities (have a go yourself!)
  • 🎨 Creative crafts for children and adults (drop spindles, weaving, colouring)
  • 👗 Dressing-up corner for kids to experience life as a mill worker
  • ☕ Refreshments and community storytelling

Admission free – All ages welcome!
